Trust And Mentoring

Every week we present a new topic for the youth participants to discuss and learn from. And every week the staff and mentors end up learning and growing from the discussions as well. Last week’s discussion was no different.

We asked to middle and high schoolers what makes someone trustworthy. As they began to list all the attributes of a trustworthy person, we made sure we paid attention. Because in the end, weren’t we, as mentors, asking these young people to find us trustworthy? Didn’t we want them to see us as someone they could confide in and be themselves around? Their lists were blueprints to how we can best mentor them.

Mentoring isn’t just about guiding someone to become the amazing person they were meant to be. It is also continually striving to be a mentor that the mentee can trust to not lead them astray. This trust is sacred and All Things Made New is endlessly grateful for the mentors who have worked so hard to strengthen the bonds they have with the youth participants and ensure that the trust is never broken.
